Google challenges Apple's Siri by opening digital assistant to iPhone

Moving on to Vitals, Google is introducing a new program called Google Play Protect to keep Android users safe from dangerous apps.

So yeah, one of the news that came out of Google's I/O keynote address was that the Google Assistant will soon accept text-based input.

Google Home now comes with a proactive assistant, yes the assistant now scores better when it comes to being contextual.

Google CEO Pichai also announced another feature called Google Lens which can recognise objects by simply pointing smartphone's camera at them.

The company also unveiled Android Go, an OS made for low-end devices (1GB of RAM of less) which receive Android O. So-called "wise" limits will gauge and control how much battery life your apps are using.

Addressing an audience of thousands of developers in Mountain View, California, Google executives delivered a broad-based update to their product portfolio which also included a slate of new features for the Google Home speaker, a job search tool and even a set of new virtual reality headsets.

Google says new tools will encourage sharing of photos that you might have meant to share - but forgot. Some features won't be out until later this year. To drive greater usage of the app, Google will now make suggestions to prod users to share images and allow them to order physical photo albums. The company envisions a world in which awesome photos are no longer left on people's phones because other pressing things in life got in the way.

Google says you can also choose to share entire photo libraries or portions of them if you wish.

Both assistants can be summoned with a press of a button to answer questions, manage schedules and handle other routine tasks.

Google provided a look at its latest digital offerings, with a heavy focus on its efforts to extend artificial intelligence features into more of its apps and services. Google Assistant is on more than 100 million devices after being on the market for slightly more than six months and now is trying to invade new territory with a free app released Wednesday that works on the operating system powering Apple's iPhone.

Google, Microsoft, Apple and Amazon.com Inc AMZN.O are competing to establish the dominant voice-powered digital assistant, which many in the industry believe will supplant keyboards and touch screens as a primary way that users interact with technology.
