Sega Teases Revival of Major IPs Over the Next Few Years

One of the major issues that the company wants to tackle is to create titles that will become global hits.

This information was revealed in Sega's "Road to 2020" presentation document which the company released at the end of the latest fiscal year.

The company says it will "expand existing IPs and obtain new IPs for North American and European PC games", as well as "revive major IPs".

The report notes that SEGA's profits are on a recovery trend following a a business structure reform in 2016, and further growth is expected in the next few years.

In this fiscal year 2017-2018, Sega aims to achieve the sales goal of 11.6 million units with current and upcoming titles, like Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, Total War: Warhammer II and Sonic Forces. It has been a very long time since Sega was a major name for gaming fans.

In case you haven't noticed, SEGA has recently brought back to life both Bayonetta and Vanquish with PC ports and it looks like this might just be the beginning.

Reviving major IPs seems to be part of Sega's plan, as it was listed as a major point in a section called "Segment Goal/Business Strategies". These include series like Persona, Football Manager, Total War, Phantasy Star, and of course, Sonic the Hedgehog. If you look to SEGA's back catalogue, there are certainly some strong contenders with Shinobi, Streets of Rage and Golden Axe only appearing as re-releases.
