EVM row: AAP workers protest outside EC office

The meeting will also discuss electoral reforms and is scheduled to begin at 10 am on Friday. But some Commission officials said the challenge can not be termed as hackathon as no internet or remote access to the EVM was involved. The Bhartiya Janata Party won 312 seats out of 403 in Uttar Pradesh Election.

He said, "If the EC claims that its machines can not be tampered with, then, we demand them to give us their machines and we will show them by hacking it".

Sixteen opposition parties had recently told the Commission that it should revert to the paper ballot system claiming that the faith of the people has "eroded" in the machines.

AAP has taken a very aggressive stand against EVM tampering, after the party's poor show in recent elections, such as the assembly elections in Goa and Punjab and recently in the Municipal elections in Delhi. "This is a work in progress", the court, which fixed the matter for further hearing on 8 May, said.

Tankha, Chairman of the Legal and Human Rights Department of the Congress, said going back to the paper ballot could also be a solution.

Hundreds of its workers today demonstrated outside the Election Commission headquarters demanding that voter- verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT)-equipped EVMs be used in future elections. They said it would reduce transparency in funding. "The ECI acknowledges and recognises that EVMs are not foolproof". They want proof of earlier elections. ECI had sent 10 reminders to the government for release of funds.

Bharadwaj also condemned the enquiry report of the Election Commission, saying that it had no basis.

The resolution also called for tallying of votes polled in 25 per cent randomly-selected booths with the paper trail generated by VVPAT machines.

He said the AAP is ready to demonstrate before the panel about how the EVMs could have tampered.

"There is no way that a voter can verify as to whether the vote cast by him has gone to the right candidate".

From all India Trinamool Congress's perspective, Mukul Roy demanded reintroduction of paper ballot system.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Tiruchi Siva said his party joined the EVM debate "to find out the truth". "There are issues of hacking as well". "Polls should be held only on VVPAT-enabled machines so that paper trail guarantees integrity of the electoral process", he wrote.

The EC has said, "We will throw open a challenge and you can prove whether they can be tampered or not". Every technical help must be involved to put an end to this matter.

"We will demand that the machines that were used be provided to us", he said.

Participating in a discussion on the issue during a daylong special session of the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed that a voting machine could be manipulated by simply feeding it with a "secret code". All it takes is 90 seconds. It is a line that suits other opposition parties too including the Congress that had steadfastly rejected similar concerns raised after the 2009 Lok Sabha elections by BJP leaders, then in the opposition.

His remarks come against the backdrop of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal reportedly questioning the independence of two Election Commissioners A K Joti and O P Rawat.
