Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Iannetta hospitalized after taking pitch to face

In 2014, Diamondbacks star Paul Goldschmidt was hit in the hand by a pitch and missed the rest of that season.

Iannetta homered off the batter's eye in center field to lead off the inning and tie the score 1-1, and the inning quickly was complicated when Glasnow walked Corbin on a 3-2 pitch.

"Everything was OK", Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said.

The pitch occurred in the bottom of the seventh inning at Chase Field, sending Iannetta to the ground bleeding.

But the Diamondbacks got those runs back and then some, with Lamb's two-run single off reliever Josh Lindblom plus RBI singles from Chris Owings and Tomas for an 11-3 lead.

"He was up walking around". He was transferred to a local hospital for further evaluation and treated for a split lip, though it doesn't look like he sustained anything more serious. However, anytime a head trauma is involved, with batter is hit in that area, no one is comfortable until a full diagnosis has been made, so the team is using all precautions possible to make sure Iannetta is fine. In the ninth inning, Arizona reliever Tom Wilhelmsen hit Pittsburgh's Chris Stewart in the leg, but Stewart simply went to first base.

But Johnny Barbato, the Pirates pitcher who struck Iannetta, said the throw was unintentional. "I'll stand by that".

Goldschmidt suffered a broken wrist when he was struck by a pitch from Ernesto Frieri on August 1, 2014, and the D-Backs got McCutchen in the back in the ninth inning the next day, forcing him onto the disabled list.

Last May, Arizona's Jean Segura was hit in the face during a game in Pittsburgh, setting up another round of retaliation. The Pirates posted just one hit, a solo homer.

The Diamondbacks are 14-6 at home and have a chance to add to their major league record of 10 straight home games with 10 strikeouts from their pitching staff. Greinke fanned 11 on Thursday.

Zack Greinke was six outs shy of recording the third no-hitter in Arizona Diamondbacks history in Thursday's 2-1 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsburgh Pirates' Tyler Glasnow sits in the dugout after being pulled from a baseball game after giving up seven runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks during the third inning Friday, May 12, 2017, in Phoenix. He gave up one run in seven innings in a no-decision in his last start against Milwaukee on Saturday, a game the Pirates won in 10 innings.

The Pirates were one-hit for the first time since September 27, 2015, at the Chicago Cubs.
