Facts about mental health

The official launch came ahead of the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from the 8th to the 14th of May. More than 60 years ago, Mental Health America made a choice to educate people that mental illnesses were as real as other physical illnesses and that they could be treated. Over the next few years, local leaders planned and worked diligently to file Articles of Incorporation with the Secretary State on May 18, 1965, and a year later on April 6, 1966, the Scioto Paint Valley Guidance Center opened its doors for business.

A recent study quizzing 2,000 Britons on the state of their mental well-being revealed that when it comes to boosting mental health, it's our friends and family that are most likely to help us out. There will be a relay where five people can complete a full marathon together.

'We need to talk about mental illness so people know that it's real and that it can happen to anyone. Sometimes people - especially young people - engage in potentially risky behaviors to manage, avoid, or cover up symptoms of a mental health problem.

In a report released this week, it said that just 13 per cent of people report living in good mental health, with younger people suffering more because of issues ranging from job insecurities, low incomes and living alone. Mental Health Month works not just because it is about what others can do for us, but what we can do for ourselves. And we don't need a special month to remind us of that.

Theresa May has promised to scrap the Mental Health Act and introduce a new act created to reduce the number of people being detained. Where our mental health is concerned, that means making the choices we need to make to recognize and understand signs and symptoms of mental health concerns, and seeking help as soon as we need it. This clinic is a dual-use facility certified for the treatment of both mental illness and addictions.

This is a service that schools value highly when it works well, as it does in some parts of the country.

Intervention has always been a buzz term in mental health. As with many aspects of health care, waiting for minor mental health problems to manifest themselves as serious maladies is costly to patients and to the health system as a whole. If you or a loved one are in need of emergency help, a crisis line volunteer can be reached at any time at 937-393-9904. We ask ourselves so many questions and begin to doubt our ability to be a mother, but we forget to take into consideration that every child is different and their rate of developing will also be different.
