Spiritual messages of hope, prosperity and peace echoed across Cumberland Square Park Thursday afternoon as dozens gathered to observe the National Day of Prayer.

The meeting will be held at The Fitness Doctor located at 2 JFK Boulevard.

The observance of the National Day of Prayer is founded on the constitutional rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion and can be celebrated by all Americans.

The community is encouraged to attend. Breakfast starts at 6:45 a.m.at Century II Exhibition Hall and cost is $25 per person in advance or at the door or $160 per table of eight.

The observance is now held the first Thursday each May when all Americans are encouraged to exercise their religious freedom by gathering publicly to worship and pray for our land.

Dalton resident Darryl Tate said he was glad to see so many people willing to stand up and pray for the nation. "So, I get up every morning and title the first part of my day to the Lord and I believe he blesses the rest".

Persida Moran, James Bradford and Oliver McMahan will lead in prayers for God to unite His church.

Together may we know love and forgiveness, may we teach it to our children, may they teach it to their friends.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday in May when people are asked to "turn to God in prayer and meditation".
