Dallas shooting began as neighbor dispute

MAY 1 2017 Police on scene of an active shooting in which a firefighter was shot in East Dallas

DALLAS (AP) - A man suspected of shooting and critically injuring a paramedic who was tending to a shooting victim on Monday has been found dead in a Dallas home, authorities said.

At least one firefighter and one civilian were shot when a gunman opened fire on paramedics in East Dallas late Monday morning. He underwent surgery Monday and was in critical but stable condition at Baylor University Medical Center, according to the mayor.

The incident started while paramedics were giving medical treatment to a shooting victim.

A Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedic is recovering Monday night after being shot while responding to a shooting call in the afternoon along Reynolds Avenue in Dallas.

Pughes says officers at the scene were told that the suspected shooter and the person found shot in the street were neighbors who'd had a dispute. Dozens of police vehicles have swarmed the mostly residential area.

WFAA-TV reported that according to sources, a bullet broke An's leg and he lost a lot of blood. Police officers went door-to-door in the neighborhood and sent in a robot to the house where the suspect had fled into.

The paramedics apparently believed they were responding to a suicide call, Dallas Fire-Rescue Department Chief David Coatney told reporters.

Police spokesman Warren Mitchell said "the entire area is still active and very dangerous".

Brown's sister, DeKisha Bryant, said this was a sad day for everyone involved.

The unidentified fourth person, the Dallas citizen, was also down on the street, Pughes said.

A 36-year-old man with a criminal history fatally shot his roommate before shooting a neighbor and a responding paramedic during an attack in a Dallas neighborhood that prompted police to barricade the area for hours, investigators said Tuesday.

Officers were fired at as they approached, and one officer pulled the Dallas paramedic out of harm's way, placing him in his squad auto and driving him to the hospital yesterday, officials said.

As Bruce and McPherson were pinned down, Dallas police officer Matthew Merta and his partner, Dallas police Sgt. Robert Watson and officer J.J. Kalash got to the house.

The Dallas Independent School District says no schools are in the immediate area of where police are searching.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: Dallas Morning News reports the initial call came from the wife or girlfriend of the shooter.
