Hernandez family planning private funeral in Connecticut

Earlier this week, his family members had asked a judge to order MA prison officials to preserve evidence so they can investigate the circumstances of his death. This friend, Newsweek reports, was interviewed by authorities and testified in front of a grand jury in connection with Lloyd's murder in an attempt to show motive.

The casket was driven from Faggas Funeral home in Watertown, Massachusetts where his body had been kept since the convicted murderer committed suicide in his jail cell before dawn on Wednesday.

Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, the mother of Hernandez's daughter, could take legal action in the wake of the ex-New England Patriots star hanging himself at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center. He was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd, a semipro football player who had been dating Jenkins Hernandez's sister.

In the hours after Aaron Hernandez committed suicide Wednesday, authorities in MA said that the former Patriots tight end didn't leave any type of note before killing himself.

When Hernandez's body was discovered this week - the same day his former teammates traveled to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win in February - he had a Bible verse scrawled on his forehead and red ink on his hands and feet, imitating the stigmata.

Hernandez grew up and played high school football and basketball in Bristol.

But multiple law-enforcement officials directly involved in the Lloyd murder case now believe that the ex-pal knew about Hernandez's bisexuality and the Patriots player feared it would be made public, Newsweek said. One of the notes was reportedly addressed to his fiancée, another was reportedly addressed to daughter, and the third was addressed to what Newsweek described as Hernandez's "prison boyfriend".

In a statement released Saturday, the family asked for privacy.

"We wish to say goodbye to Aaron in a private ceremony and thank everyone in advance for affording us a measure of privacy during this hard time", the statement read.
