Facebook Officially Rolling Out Facebook Stories and more Snapchat-like features

This camera features effects like masks, frames and filters that can be applied to photos and videos.

Notably, Facebook has also added new camera effects that let users overlay special effects on photos and videos. These photos and videos, which disappear after 24 hours, won't appear in the user's timeline unless the post them there too.

Snapchat pioneered the camera-first sharing and is wildly popular with younger users.

The three new features are a culmination of a lot of testing in Instagram, and apparently Messenger where Stories like features have been showing up as well.

Facebook Direct will allow users to share individual photos and videos with specific friends for a limited time. With today's announcement about Facebook Stories and new camera effects, we're not sure if there's a difference between the two.

Reactive effects have also been added to let users interact with dynamic objects like falling snow, as well as an artistic filter to let users turn their everyday selfie into a Picasso-style work of art.

You can download Facebook from the App Store for free. Shares of the parent company of Snapchat, which popularized the sharing of digitally decorated photos, especially among teenagers, fell 5 percent in morning trading Tuesday after Facebook's announcement. The app now offers several masks, including sponsored ones by movies, such as Alien: Covenant and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2. You can also respond using text in Direct, but once the conversation ends, its track will be gone. With it, users can tap a new camera icon on the top left corner.

If you are having a second thought about the post you just made, you can delete your picture or video story by opening it and exploring the options.

This modification indicates for the fourth time that Facebook has copied basic Snapchat features like photo and video montages that disappear in 24 hours.
