Trump Lashes Out After Judge Suspends Travel Ban Nationwide

Washington state and Minnesota officials will ask a federal judge on Friday for a nationwide restraining order to immediately stop implementation of portions of President Trump's immigration travel ban.

President Donald Trump signed the executive order on January 27 that banned the entry of all citizens from seven countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen) with a majority population of Muslims for 90 days, suspended all refugee admissions for 120 days, and stopped all refugees from war-torn Syria indefinitely.

Signed on the evening of January 27, the ban prevents citizens from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the country for 90 days, prevents refugees from entering the country for 120 days, and bars Syrian refugees from entering the US altogether.

"This executive order contains an unconstitutional test of what religion is affected and how they are affected", Inslee said.

Lawyers for the USA government argued that the states don't have standing to challenge the order and said Congress gave the president authority to make decisions on national security and admitting immigrants.

The appeal now goes to a three-judge panel which can act at anytime to uphold the order or suspend it pending a full appeal.

In its appeal, the department said Judge James Robart had overreached by "second guessing" the president on a national security matter.

Taking to social media on Saturday Mr Trump mocked Judge Robart, appointed by President George W. Bush, as a "so-called judge" whose "ridiculous" ruling would be overturned.

But the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco did not agree with that assessment and denied the Justice Department's request to stay the Mr Robart's decision.

Many have been standing up against President Donald Trump's immigration ban of seven primarily Muslim countries, and Trump is doing everything in his power to defend it-even firing acting attorney general Sally Yates.

"It's a wonderful day for the rule of law in this country", said Washington state solicitor general Noah Purcell. They had to revoke up to 60,000 visas due to the ban.

"Washington has a profound interest in protecting its residents from the harms caused by the irrational discrimination embodied in the order", Ferguson said in a brief.

It also froze the entire US refugee program for four months, barred Syrians from entering as refugees indefinitely and cut the number of refugees the USA will accept in fiscal 2017 to 50,000-less than half the number that former President Barack Obama called for this year.
