Trump signs executive order to slash regulations

The order states the two-for-one mandate is required "to the extent permitted by law" and the cost caps are required "unless prohibited by law". The draft says the goal is "to understand the full scope of United States efforts to educate and train the workforce of the future".

Congressman Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina, Trump's pick to head the Office of Management and Budget, has yet to be confirmed.

President Trump's latest executive action aims to roll back federal regulations.

Starting in 2018, the executive order calls on the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget to give each agency a budget for how much it can increase regulatory costs or cut regulatory costs.

Kimmell said the order is "absurd, imposing a Sophie's Choice on federal agencies". It could be hard to implement under current law, and would concentrate greater power in the Office of Management and Budget, which already reviews federal regulations.

"Judging a regulation based exclusively on its costs, without considering benefits, is illogical".

The executive action was meant to improve government networks, but it remains unclear just how the order would have improved the cyberpolicies of the Obama administration.

The White House has not yet released the formal paperwork.

Under the order, the USA federal agencies will propose rules they want to drop and the White House will review them.

It's not yet immediately clear what the regulatory process will look like moving forward for the federal government.

"The U.S. Chamber applauds the president for fulfilling the campaign's promise to take on the regulatory juggernaut that is limiting economic growth, choking small business, and putting people out of work", said Thomas J. Donohue, Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, in a statement regarding the EO.

He then went on to add, "This will be the biggest such act that our country has ever seen".

Additionally, the executive order would not address alleged Russian hacking of the 2016 presidential election, but it would support the divisive Department of Homeland Security decision to label the election system as critical infrastructure.
