In turn, they will receive a red dress pin or wristband, and lifesaving heart health education.

Spokeswoman Shannon Hilaire says the event will feature a 1.5-mile dash from Miller Time Pub and Grill to the State Capitol.

Why Go Red? Cardiovascular diseases kill almost 1 in 3 women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. Everyone is encouraged to wear red that day. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), that's approximately one woman every minute.

On Feb. 3, the 10th anniversary of Go Red, join millions of women and men on National Wear Red Day and wear red to help raise awareness about women and heart disease; to help the important women in your life - your mother, your daughter, your sister, but especially yourself!

The National Society DAR has supported the Go Red for Women campaign since it was launched in 2004 and has even gone so far as to shine bright red lights on its national headquarters in Washington, D.C.in honor of Go Red for Women. Heart Month raises awareness of cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease and stroke - the No. 1 and No. 5 killers, respectively, of Americans. The American Heart Month is created to remind people the importance of a healthy heart and raise awareness on how to prevent the disease, the Who TV says. "We look forward to saving and changing countless lives by working together". Today, almost 300 fewer women die from heart disease and stroke, each day. The website reports almost 90 percent of women have made at least one healthy behavior change, and more than one-third of women have lost weight.

Louisiana residents, in particular, are at a higher risk of heart disease because of rising obesity levels, which can contribute to cardiovascular diseases.
