Nigel Farage Trumped By UK Prime Minister

In reply to Trump's tweet about Farage representing the United Kingdom as an ambassador to the United States, Downing Street simply said that there was "no vacancy". "This is a man with whom we can do business", Farage posted.

Suffolk MP Dan Poulter issued a broadside on stand-in UKIP leader Nigel Farage in the House of Commons after USA president-elect Donald Trump suggested the MEP should become Britain's Washington ambassador.

President-elect Donald Trump has promised to make big changes when it comes to U.S. foreign policy.

Mr Trump said on Twitter.

"I think this is an indication that the relationship between Trump and Prime Minister May is going to be off to a rocky start", he said, suggesting that Farage might well work closely with Trump even without British government backing.

"We have a first rate ambassador in Washington doing a very good job", Johnson told MPs in parliament. "We already have an excellent ambassador to the USA".

Britain rejects an unprecedented call by a USA president to appoint an ambassador in Washington, dismissing President-elect's choice, Nigel Farage, for the post.

Farage: "I would do anything to help our national interest and to help cement ties with the incoming Anglophile administration".

"Politicians who have been openly abusive about Trump now pretend to be his friend". Foreign leaders typically have no input in whom other countries select to serve as ambassadors.

Nigel Farage wants to move from despicable Brussels to the splendid Washington in the service of a relationship that could be more "special" if founded on the political bond of the Brexit and Trump movements.

Foreign Secretary Johnson also said in jest, without mentioning Farage by name, that perhaps he should instead apply to be ambassador to Tehran, signaling 10 Downing Street's general disdain for the Independence Party leader.

Mr. Trump's tweet received a cool response in official circles.

Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks denied to the New York Times that Trump discussed wind farms during his meeting with Farage.

Farage returned the favor by campaigning for Trump in MS, and he became the first foreign politician invited to Trump Tower after Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton.

Prime Minister Theresa May, who congratulated Trump on his victory, was swift to reject such an undiplomatic proposal, with a spokesman saying Britain already had an excellent ambassador to Washington and that London would appoint its own envoys.

Trump told May that he was a "big fan of the Queen" when the pair spoke by telephone following his victory, and is also reported to have told Farage that his late mother Mary would have been "chuffed to bits when I meet the Queen".
