Egypt's $2 billion deposit from Saudi Arabia showed in September reserves

The disagreement is over Syria, where Riyadh says Syrian President Bashar Assad must be removed for that country's civil war to end, while Cairo advocates a political process that denies Islamic militants any role in Syria's future.

Egypt has recently voted for a Russian draft resolution at the UN Security Council over Syria, which is believed to have disturbed Egypt's biggest Gulf ally Saudi Arabia although Egypt voted for a rival Western draft resolution.

Close allies Egypt and Saudi Arabia are having their first public spat since Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi took office two years ago.

Egypt is negotiating with Russia to restore flights to its Red Sea resorts, a year after the bombing of a Russian airliner carrying holidaymakers back to St Petersburg.

Egypt said it voted for both resolutions, which failed to pass at the worldwide body, out of keenness on a relief for the Syrian people, particularly those in Aleppo, regardless of any political considerations.

Egypt received a $2 billion central bank deposit from Saudi Arabia in September, the prime minister told Reuters on Thursday, confirming it had been accounted for in the previous month's foreign reserves total, which stood at $19.6 billion.

Reacting to Saudi Aramco's decision to stop shipping refined oil products to Egypt, Daghaim told Egypt's Al-Balad TV that it's their duty to provide Egypt with everything it needs without preconditions.

The Saudis have also been angered by meetings between Egyptian officials and representatives of Yemen's Iran-backed Shiite rebels.

Saudi Arabian Ambassador Ahmed Kattan departed Cairo on Wednesday for what Egyptian state media is calling a three-day "recall" to Saudi Arabia.
