Bill Clinton calls Obamacare 'the craziest thing in the world'

Clinton clarified at rallies across OH on Tuesday that he supported the law and thought it did a "world of good", and just needed some fixes. Bill Clinton had said Monday in Flint, Michigan.

He added, "You've got this insane system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care and then the people who are out there busting it ... wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half".

The RNC mailer is meant to "turnout voters" in 12 states that are vital to Donald Trump's chances on November 8.

While the former president was more affirming of the policy Wednesday, he did not spare the bill of criticism.

But the people that are getting killed in this deal are small businesspeople and individuals who make just a little too much to get any of these subsidies. Why?

Former President Bill Clinton speaks to a crowd of about 500 Tuesday at Harding Middle School.

"Sometimes with the Clintons, even the truth happens", he said, taking a jab at trustworthiness questions that have dogged Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign.

After the rally, his aides and the Clinton campaign walked back the former president's comments, saying Mr. Clinton is a supporter of Obamacare, but wants to address lingering gaps in the insurance markets. If I get unlucky in the pool, I'll lose money.' So they overcharge you just to make sure, and on good years, they just make a whopping profit from the people who are least able to pay it.

"I think people who believe in third party candidates are a little delusional..."

But it has been nearly a non-issue between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton on the presidential campaign trail, as more Americans gained health insurance coverage under the law, and the GOP proved unable to rally around an alternative.

While Bill Clinton may have been less prominent in the 2016 campaign, he has been as busy as ever, heading to places like Youngstown, Ohio, where Trump's populism threatens to eat into Democratic vote counts.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment but not yet received a response.

"We came not only for the educational component but also to support Hillary", said Amy White, 36, of Vinton County, who brought her son to the rally.

In contrast to Trump, Clinton said his wife "actually has a plan" on that issue and a variety of others whereas her opponent does not.

Clinton's overall remarks focused on why Hillary Clinton would be better for the economy than Trump, who Bill Clinton described as playing on working class voters' economic frustrations with lies and empty promises.

Bill Clinton has always been dogged by allegations of womanizing, extramarital affairs and abuse.

Bill Clinton stuck it to Obamacare just a day before first lady Michelle Obama was at North Carolina State University, vigorously urging millennials to end their antipathy toward Hillary and elect her - because she is their only real hope for the future.

The White House said again Tuesday there were changes they would like to see made to the ACA.
